Creating my capstone collection, Rumi was a journey of merging tradition with innovation and embracing sustainable practices. Earlier this year I took a game-changing Clo 3D course at Toronto Metropolitan University with Professor Caron Phinney. The course was a transformative experience. It opened my eyes to new ways of thinking and creating, allowing me to push boundaries in fashion design through realistic digital garment simulations. This course truly reshaped my design approach, making it more efficient, precise, and aligned with sustainable practices.
Enhancing My Design Thinking with Technology
Clo 3D revolutionized the way I think about design. By enabling me to visualize garments digitally, it transformed my creative process into something more dynamic, precise, and iterative. With Clo, I could see the garment come to life before cutting a single piece of fabric, encouraging me to experiment with details, textures, and silhouettes in ways I never could before. This digital approach opened new dimensions in my design thinking, challenging me to push boundaries while remaining true to my vision for my capstone collection.
Exploration Without Limits
Designing with Clo 3D allowed me to step outside traditional constraints and rethink how a garment could be crafted. Every pleat, drape, and embellishment was explored with precision and flexibility. This freedom to experiment meant I could test ideas quickly, visualize variations in real time, and make informed decisions based on a realistic virtual representation. It was like having an endless canvas where I could refine, perfect, and innovate—all while staying rooted in my goals for sustainability and craftsmanship.
Efficiency Meets Sustainability
One of the most impactful aspects of using Clo 3D was its ability to streamline the entire process while aligning with sustainable principles. By reducing the need for physical samples, I minimized fabric waste and lowered costs. This not only accelerated my workflow but gave me more room to focus on design integrity and storytelling. The ability to visualize garments from every angle and make fit adjustments virtually meant fewer revisions and more confidence when bringing the final piece to life.
A New Era in Design Thinking
For me, embracing Clo 3D was more than a tool change—it was a mindset shift. It amplified my ability to think beyond physical limitations and reimagine what fashion design could achieve. By integrating this digital approach, I found new ways to honor traditional craftsmanship while evolving my practice for a more sustainable and innovative future.
